Joanne Coates – 8th October

Our first guest speaker of the season is up-and-coming photographer and fellow Wensleydale resident Joanne Coates.

Joanne describes herself as a documentary photographer interested in working life and class inequality, with a focus on northern England. For her 2016 series North Sea Swells, Joanne sailed out with the trawlermen to capture glimpses of life at sea. Her images reveal a fierce beauty and austere nobility.

In a relatively short career, Joanne has contributed to the BBC, The Telegraph and The Guardian and her work has been exhibited in the UK and abroad. Prolific and diverse in her interests, Joanne is collaborating currently at the Photo Fringe in Brighton, contributing to 209 Women, a series about the 209 women MPs, and the Invisible Women project. She is also the founder of the photographers group LensThinkYorkshire.

We look forward to seeing more of Joanne’s work and learning about how she approaches her projects. Joanne is keen to make the evening a discussion/conversation, so come along with your questions, and your prints!

Guests welcome, entry £3 on the door.
